# Reading Maze: Comprehension Skills

Grade 6 students get better at understanding texts. They use different strategies to do this. This maze game asks you to find a path through key comprehension words. As you move through the maze, you will pass through words in a certain order. Write down each word you pass. Write them in the order you find them. At the end, you will have four important comprehension terms, though only 'inference' (related to inferring) and 'summarize' are true comprehension strategies; 'context' and 'perspective' are related concepts readers analyze, not strategies. Readers use these comprehension strategies and related concepts to understand texts better. ([Outcome](https://goa-cc-uat-aili-app-001.azurewebsites.net/explore/node/45471)).

## How to play

- Start at the marked entrance and draw one path through the open corridors to the marked exit without crossing a wall.
- Each time you pass through a cell that carries a word, read it and write it down in order. The right route passes 4 words; the grey words sit in dead ends.
- The shortest path passes through 107 cells. The answer key shows the route and the 4 words in order.

## The maze

## Answer key

The correct path passes through these four words, in this order:

1. inference
2. summarize
3. perspective
4. context

Predict, synthesize, and evaluate are also real comprehension strategies from the curriculum, though not on the correct path. 'Evidence,' 'implicit,' 'explicit,' 'perspective,' and 'context' are related comprehension concepts but are not themselves comprehension strategies.
