# Reading Detectives: A Comprehension Crossword

Grade 6 readers learn best by using many strategies at the same time, not just one. Good readers move back and forth between predicting (guessing what comes next), inferring (figuring out what isn't said directly), analyzing (breaking things apart to understand them), summarizing (telling the main ideas), synthesizing (putting ideas together), and evaluating (deciding if something is good or true) as they read. ## How to play

Read each clue carefully and think about which comprehension strategy or word it describes. Write your answer in capital letters. Put one letter in each box. Match the numbered squares on the grid. Across and Down clues share letters where words cross. A correct answer in one direction can help you figure out a hard word in the other direction. Work through the clues you know first. Then use the crossing letters to solve the harder ones. There are 8 words to find in total.
